Greetings, and welcome to the web page of the Elim Christian Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire, U.K. I bring you greetings from the congregation here at Elim, we pray the blessing and peace of God upon you and your families in these critical days.
I write this just a few days following the tragic events in Brussels and in Pakistan. We pray for the families of those who have lost loved ones, and for those who remain in hospital, some facing serious injuries. Terrorism on this scale has sadly become almost a way of life since the events of 9/11. This has had a bearing upon our every day lives in that we are called to be vigilant in terms of our personal security, but also the security of our communities and nations.
One of the basic tenets of the Christian gospel is the theme relating to the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible does not specify a date, but there are many references to events and conditions that would be in evidence in the period leading up to this momentous event. The Apostle Paul, in writing to a colleague by the name of Timothy, makes mention of some of the signs that would be happening in what he refers to as ‘The Last Days’. He speaks in terms of ‘Perilous Times’, and he goes onto describe some of the conditions that would prevail during this season of human history:-
‘PEOPLE WILL BE SELF-ABSORBED, MONEY HUNGRY, SELF-PROMOTING,
UNBENDING, TREACHEROUS, RUTHLESS’….
(The Message Translation).
Some of this behaviour is seen in the actions of those who seek to bring death and destruction in the pursuit of an ignoble cause. We are called upon to pray protection upon our families and our communities. We are also urged to be ready for this momentous event that could happen at any time. Jesus is the only One who can bring peace and hope in the midst of these uncertain times.
