‘FEAR NOT, FOR I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY’.

Seasonal greetings to you from the congregation here at Elim Christian

Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire, U.K. The above statement was spoken by the

Angel to the frightened shepherds as they witnessed the dramatic scenes

surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. These humble shepherds witnessed

the unfolding of this great act of love as Father God sent His Son the

Lord Jesus Christ, to be the Saviour of the world. The birth of Jesus in

that lowly Bethlehem manger was indeed an event that brought good news to

a broken and confused world. This baby, Jesus Christ God’s Son, would be

the One who provide a way by which sinful man could be reconciled to God

his creator.

We celebrate Christmas this year against a backdrop of great fear and

uncertainty. Here in the U.K., we are still coming to terms with all of

the implications of ‘BREXIT’. It remains to be seen how this affects our

future relationship with our European partners and the wider global

community of nations. The election of Donald Trump as President Elect of

America has sent shock waves around the world with political leaders

seeking to establish links with the new administration.

The Christ of the Bethlehem manger, the Christ of Christmas, came to be

the One who would redeem mankind from the fear of sin and death. He came

to be ‘The Prince of Peace’ for all who call upon Him in repentance and

faith. The Apostle Paul, in describing the birth of Jesus Christ, penned

the following words:-

‘THANKS BE UNTO GOD FOR HIS INDESCRIBABLE GIFT’.

We will exchange gifts this festive season, but the greatest gift any one

of us can receive is the peace and security that only Jesus can give as we

embrace Him as Saviour and Lord.
