New Year Greetings from members and friends of the Elim Christian Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire, U.K.

I trust that you have enjoyed the festive season, and that you are looking forward to the coming year with its hopes and challenges. New Year is often a time when we focus on ‘New Beginnings’ and ‘New Resolutions’, though it must be said that so often our resolutions often quickly fall by the wayside. We do however pause to reflect upon the year that has just concluded with its good and bad times, and we look forward to the year ahead. As we enter 2016, we are reminded on a daily basis via the news media that we are living in very dangerous times. We see the carnage and destruction in nations such as Syria and Iraq reminding ourselves of the possible consequences for our security here at home.

For the Christian believer living in the midst of this uncertainty, two thoughts immediately spring to mind. Firstly, there is great concern over the plight of innocent people in these war torn lands. Secondly, the tragic scenes we so often see of columns of people fleeing these places of strife in order to find a brighter future for their families.

World Leaders struggle to find solutions to these difficult circumstances, but the reality is that such attempts often result in failure. War and its consequences are so often symptomatic of the presence of evil that is sadly present in the hearts and minds of broken humanity. The Bible refers to this as ‘Sin’! There is no remedy to this on the human scale. Only a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ can break this propensity to evil and bring lasting peace and hope to the human heart.

My prayer is for you and your family, that this year may be a year of hope and prosperity, and that you may experience the peace and joy that can only be found through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
