Greetings, and welcome to the web page of the Elim Christian Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire. U.K. Glossop is situated on the edge of Greater Manchester, about eleven miles from the city centre. The Manchester bomb has impacted our community in many ways. Students from our schools were present at the concert at the Manchester Arena, thankfully none of them were injured. The nation has united in expressing support to the city, but in particular toward those who are grieving the loss of loved ones, and those who remain in hospital facing the prospect of life changing injuries. One cannot help but be moved when seeing the carpet of floral tributes and messages in St Anne’s Square in the heart of the city centre.
‘LOVE MANCHESTER’ and ‘PRAY FOR MANCHESTER’ are statements of intent that have gripped the hearts of millions of people not only here in the U.K., but world wide. People have united in prayer, but also in giving generously in support of those who have felt the impact of this dreadful deed.
The Manchester bomb brought a temporary halt to campaigning in the U.K. General Election. This has now re-convened, and the nation goes to the polls on Thursday 8th of June. Our nation stands at a critical point in her history. The outcome of this election will determine our future identity as the United Kingdom, but will also have profound impact upon our relations with Europe and the wider community of nations. Much prayer is being made at this present time in respect of Manchester, but also for our nation. Britain stands in need of a spiritual renewal and awakening. A song written a few years ago expresses this so very powerfully: ‘LORD, HEAL OUR NATION’!
Our prayer is, that in the midst of uncertain times, people may encounter the love, compassion, and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the One who is able to bring comfort and peace into troubled lives and communities.
