Greetings to all from the members and friends of the Elim Christian Centre, Glossop, Derbyshire, U.K. Welcome to our Elim Christian Centre web site, and we pray God’s blessing upon you and your families. I write this just a few days following severe storms that have hit the British Isles causing loss of life and major damage to property. On Monday the 16th of October, the remnants of hurricane ‘OPHELIA’ hit the Southern coast of the Republic of Ireland causing massive disruption, and the closure of schools, and the suspension of all forms of transport. This spread to all parts of the island of Ireland before crossing the Irish Sea and affecting Scotland and the North of England. My wife and I were actually in Northern Ireland on that day and were confined to our hotel room as the Police were advising against all unnecessary travel. On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of October, storm ‘BRIAN’ hit many parts of the U.K. with powerful gusts of wind bringing destruction to property and disruption to travel.
Having witnessed the devastation caused by these storms, I was reminded of the fact that often we are called upon to navigate the ‘Storms’ of everyday life. This can be caused by a number of factors; the death of a loved one, health issues, financial uncertainty, breakdown of relationships, loss of job, the list is endless. Circumstances such as these, like those storms, come suddenly and can be a cause of great fear and dismay. In thinking about this, I was reminded of the gospel song recorded by Elvis Presley; ‘PEACE IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM’. This song was based upon the story recorded in the gospels, describing the occasion when the disciples of Jesus found themselves in the midst of a severe storm on the Sea of Galilee. Their boat was in danger of sinking, and their lives were in peril. We read how that Jesus stood up and rebuked the wind and the waves and spoke the words;
‘PEACE BE STILL’!
Some of you reading this may find yourselves in the midst of one of the storms of life. The Jesus who calmed the storm on the occasion just referred to is the One who can come alongside you today and speak peace and hope into that troubled situation you find yourself in. Why not call upon Him today and seek His help, and you will find that He will respond to you. Having done that, why not contact us here at Elim Christian Centre, and we will be delighted to help you further.
